Has anyone heard of SkimLinks before? They are 5 years old today from what I can tell from looking around their homepage for a bit. For a minute I thought the site was called scamlinks. Amazing how 2 letters can make a difference. Anyways, what skim links basically does is turn regular links into affiliate links so you can get paid a commission. They even have another option which is skimwords. I know you are thinking that how could a link that I manually created be turned into an affiliate link and I will receive a payment? I want to share a video with you that I took from there website. Well it’s uploaded to YouTube so it’s free to everyone.
If you had watched the whole video above, you should have a really good idea what SkimLinks is all about if you join as a publisher. I will not be adding SkimLinks on this blog but I might add this on a new blog that I have. (Not leaking info about that blog). SkimLinks is like an adsense alternative if you was banned or you just don’t want to put up adsense on your site. Writing good content is what all of us should be doing and SkimLinks might actually work well with high quality content. Unique traffic is what you need to have a chance at making a steady stream of money from your blog or website. Not to often your loyal visitors will buy stuff from you a few times a week.
Since I have not actually used SkimLinks for a few months or even a few days, I’d like to hear some reviews about them and if they payout on time. Post your comments below if you wish to talk about SkimLinks.

On one hand I think it’s pretty neat. It will also help with Google seeing they have some issues lately with affiliate links. But when she says affiliate links are ugly it’s probably the worst sales pitch I’ve heard in my life. Affiliate links only looks ugly if you have some sort of extreme OCD… The real benefit would be auto create the affiliate link and tracking the sales for us. I would never do something like this I’m far to paranoid I think people are out to make money so how many sales will I not get…
I agree with you and I won’t add this to my blog here. The content is more important to me and i’m always worried about Google and there updates so I don’t over due things just to make a buck.
I could always use the ATM. (call up mom)
Aaron, Marketing Director at Skimlinks here.
Thanks for the post Derek! You found an old video! Our newer one is available at youtube.com/skimlinks. The whole idea is that Skimlinks turns links that already exist into affiliate links, so it’s a really nice solution as it isn’t obtrusive in any way, but makes sure that you get rewarded if someone buys something as a result of reading about it on your site. And as the leader in the space, we provide the highest payouts, best reporting, innovative solutions, yada yada (note to self: that’s enough marketing, Aaron).
I strongly suggest that folks reading this article take a look at http://www.monetizingonlineforums.com. for an e-book we sponsored. It’s incredibly thorough and covers all of the different monetization possibilities out there, and directly addresses the notion of doing it right, not being spammy, and the balance between making money and running a good community.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions about making money online, Skimlinks or anything else. I’m a big hoops fan and grew up in LA so I’m happy to talk about the Lakers upcoming dominance as well

p.s. Derek – saw your follow up comment about Google. They are super friendly with us, and approve of all we do. It’s my old company as well
Aaron, thanks for the information. I didn’t think someone would respond so fast from Skimlinks. The info about Google is important as more and more people are worried about there rankings but still want to maintain a revenue source.
