If you serious about starting a website, forum, blog or any type of website in general, do not use FREE web hosting. Do you want full control of your website about adding revenue features to it? Go with paid web hosting so you can add your own ads to your website among other good features. With Free web hosting, you many have a lower bandwidth cap space, small MYSQL database, limited features in cpanel among other things. Do you really think support with your free web hosting account will be top-notch and given 24 hours a day? I don’t think so. Free web hosts must make money to pay for their servers and other operation costs so they will put a cap on certain things to force you to upgrade or just suspend your account.
Why bother dealing with so many potential threats that could get your FREE web hosting account suspended or even have some downtime as your site get’s too much traffic for the little bandwidth space you are given. Go with shared web hosting that is actually cheap but you get a lot more features than you would with a FREE web host. Plus the support will be much better as they would have full-time support going 24 hours a day in which they are paid staff. Most free web hosts are wanna be web hosting giants who think they can strike it rich in the web hosting industry with not that much knowledge. A web hosting owner must be an expert in servers, know all the web hosting lingo, know all about the different operating systems that can run on a server, how to secure the server, monitor the server 24 hours a day and have protective measures in place if one server is acting up or down. They must be able to resolve any type of hosting question/stupid question asked via support system. Any downtime to a clients website can affect their business in a huge way.
If you plan on starting a small website, go with a shared hosting package, I have listed cheap but yet excellent web hosting providers on my Resource page that I have used in the past or currently use right now for my websites. They are well-known web hosts with a proven track record. Invest in your website and go with paid web hosting and with a reliable/established web host. You get what you pay for. If you don’t pay for web hosting then well, you take the risk of having poor bandwidth specs and poor specs of everything actually. You’d be lucky if you was allowed to transfer your MYSQL database to another web host. Free web hosts put a cap on your account because their agenda is to force you to upgrade to their paid plans that are not that good. They are in this business to make money and not provide a service to their clients.
Most free web hosts don’t last that long online or get bought out by a paid web host so then you will be forced to buy web hosting regardless if you liked the free web hosting. Do me a favor, if you serious about running any type of website online, invest money into it from the beginning. You get a ton of features with any shared web hosting plan listed on my Resource page.
