Are you interested in the IT (Information Technology) industry and want to either further your education or completely learn a new trade to be able to apply for a new career job. Big money can be made in this industry depending on what field of expertise that you are in. For example, computer programmers can make a ton of money depending on what company that they work for. You build custom applications, software and other misc. programming stuff.
Not all IT companies have the same pay rate scale but most companies do hand out raise’s, bonus’ depending on if you reached the targeted goals for the quarter. I work for an IT company but I am not a programmer and instead I troubleshoot and repair computer’s/laptops. As a matter of fact, last week I applied for a Team Lead position within my company. Trying to be a boss because I have some idea’s on how to streamline a few process’s that could save time and money. Hopefully I’ll be asked to come in for an interview for this job or just stay in same position. (UPDATE: I didn’t get this)
So, if you want to increase your knowledge or completely learn a trade in the IT world but don’t know where to start, this blog post will help you a little. Did you know that you could take college course’s online if you are unable to attend a local university or IT school? We all have families and sometimes it’s hard to find a babysitter or find time to travel to school. Why not take course’s at home and not spend extra money on gas for starters. If you are now unemployed, check with your state or the school that you might want to attend and see if you can get a loan or help from the state to learn a new trade. My brother got a degree (not in IT industry) from the University of Phoenix besides going to a local college that he partied hard with his roommates and got another degree.
To save you a bit of time from searching phoenix.edu, check out this section called: Information Systems and Technology. You are never to old to go back to school. Heck if you think you would feel embarrassed attending a college at such an old age then take the online course’s. Technology is getting better all the time and they need people to be able to fix these new technology’s and improve them. That’s where the IT folks come into play. Programmers write the code, tech support fix’s issues and set’s up the software along with other things. You can work in the payroll department but you need to know some softwares really good to get a PayRoll job at a computer company. Degree’s on the resume will get you in for an interview.
At my computer company, we have project managers who talk directly with the clients and explain to them our process, what technology we have at our disposal, the program language used to create or run their software and be able to explain what type of equipment would be best for their company. We have programmers who create scripts or even create a software for a company from scratch. We have service tech’s like me who get the returned equipment and have to find out what is wrong with it and replace/upgrade the system to certain requirements. There are so many departments to get a job in but it all comes down to having an education in Information technology.
You first need a degree and some certifications to make your resume good enough to land an interview with a computer company. Take some online courses at University of Phoenix and then go for some certifications for the field that you got a degree in. By doing both, your resume will look outstanding along with your earlier work experience in whatever field that you was in before.
Some companies will pay you extra money for every certification that you get. Not all companies do this but they do look at certifications to know that this person knows their stuff and could turn out to be a very good asset to the company. Have a safe weekend and good luck in getting that dream job in the IT industry.
