Build Your Online Reputation By Acting Like A Normal Person

Are You A Person Or A Robot?

I sure hope you answered a person. If you answered robot, then that’s just weird. Anyways, I’d like to tell you why acting like a normal person online can be hugely beneficial to your traffic stats, conversion rate, reputation, and just overall success online.

Far too often people adopt this mindset of trying to take, take, take online without giving anything in return. They become mindless robots and begin spamming sites with low quality comments and sending out “Link for link?” emails to anyone who is unfortunate enough to post their email address online. This is going to really hurt you when it comes to building your online reputation. I’m here to tell you why it’s important to act like a normal person if you want to build your online reputation.

Very recently, I made my first guest post on a successful site that deals with how to initially setup your blog, and then make some money from it. If you’re interested, you can go check out my guest post called Effective Truth Marketing Strategies. The interesting thing about this guest post is that the path to this guest post being published was unconventional, and it all had to do with me acting like a normal person in my online endeavors.

What You Can Do To Act Like A Normal Person

Acting like a normal person online is really very simple, but if you need some pointers, then I’m here to help. All that you have to do is pretend that you’re actually in the real world when conducting yourself online.

For example, lets say you found a new blog that you really like, and you want to guest post on it. Are you going to send over an email right away that says, “Can I guest post?” No. That’s just rude. First, you need to introduce yourself. Leave a comment on the most recent post saying that you just found the site and have found the content really helpful. Also, you really need to read the post you’re commenting on. It’s really easy to tell whether someone actually read the post or not based on what their comment says.

Next, subscribe to their site, or follow them via their social media accounts. This shows them that you’re actually interested in them and lets them know that you’re not some spammer. Finally, once you’ve kind of established your name with the site author, send over a personal email. Don’t come right out and say that you want to guest post. Tell them a bit about yourself, and why you think you can add to the content on his/her site. Finally, tell them about the idea for your guest post. Just tell them the headline and summarize it a little. That’s all that they will need to tell you if they’re interested or not. Honestly, at this point, it will be hard for them to turn you down. You’ve done everything right, acted TRUTHFULLY, and proven to them that you are in fact a genuine person.

The final step to this process is to just wait for them to respond. They’re most likely going to say, “Sure, send over a full version of your post!” If they don’t then continue to act like a normal person and tell them, “Sorry my guest post didn’t fit with your site. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve it?” They will most likely be willing to work with you.

The Moral Of The Story

The example I gave above is just one instance where acting like a normal person can benefit you online. I’ve personally used the method above to successfully get a guest post accepted on a well-known site. Some other things that acting like a normal person will help you with are getting people to respect, trust, subscribe, and even buy from you. People want to know they are dealing with a genuine person, and not a scammer.

Do you conduct yourself like a robot online? It’s not too late to change. If you want to find out some easy ways to start getting recognized as a genuine person online, you may want to check out my recent post Make Someone’s Day With A Comment.
